Grant Help

While there are a variety of grants available, the most common is the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This grant can be used to purchase equipment for a project that falls under the Agency's Operations and Safety program.

Over 18,000 Fire Departments/Districts submitted applications for an AFG grants in 2009. Awards ranged from a minimum of $328 to a maximum of $2,698,266. The average Fed Share was $160,071. Grants for Operations and Safety projects made up 64% of all applications submitted, the rest were for vehicle acquisitions.
